6th Annual Community Arts Show 2012

The Deadline for Artwork for the 6th Annual Community Arts Show is February 9 at 8pm. Artwork can be dropped off at the gallery during regular hours up until the deadline. All flat artwork should be clean, framed where appropriate, and have a hanging wire. Other artwork should be ready for presentation.

The show will begin February 10th and run through March 17. Deadline for submitting work will be 6pm Thursday February 9th.

In the past we have shown modeling, needlework, weaving, carving, fly-tying, woodworking, sculpting, drawing, and painting. If you have projects where you create what you feel is art, and is worth sharing, then show it at the community arts show. We are limited by the space we have, but we will attempt to find a spot for all submitted and accepted work. Work can be for sale.

There will be prizes awarded to Best of Show, Viewer’s Choice, and Kids under 16. For more information, stop by during gallery hours. The gallery is located in the Olde Courthouse Arts Centre at 1840 Nicola Avenue, Merritt. Admittance is always free. The gallery is owned and operated by the Nicola Valley Community Arts Council.

Seeking a Treasurer

The Nicola Valley Arts Council is currently seeking a Treasurer for the Arts Council.

Duties include: using our Simply Accounting Software program to enter our finances, preparing monthly statements for Board meetings (3rd Weds of the month), working with the Board to create yearly budgets.

We are looking for someone with keen interest in finance and knowledge of Simply Accounting is an asset. We are willing to train and support any individual that might be interested in this position. January Show: The Courthouse Students’ Show

The January show for the Courthouse Gallery will feature the drawing students of MK Dahlquist-Gray. The students come from a variety of backgrounds and range in age from 14 to 77. The artwork will primarily entail animal, birds, and people portraits. For the subject matter, and are done in: pencil, charcoal, pastel, and pen and ink. The eight (8) participating students are: Roger Ball, Noah Bergman, Heather Burnham, Kathy Grant, Diane Lavoie, Kathy Johns, Debbie Towers, Linda Nunn

Reception will be held January 6th from 6-8pm stop by and meet the artists. The gallery is located in the Olde Courthouse Arts Centre at 1840 Nicola Avenue, Merritt. Admittance is always free. The gallery is owned and operated by the Nicola Valley Community Arts Council.

Intro to Photography Course

The Nicola Valley Arts Council has teamed up with the Merritt Civic Centre to bring back an Introduction to Photography Course. If you are interested in signing up please contact the Aquatic or Civic Centre at 250-315-1050.

Course Outline

Are you looking for a great first course in photography, but don’t have
the time to commit to a 10 week program? Then this workshop is for you!

An introductory course on the basics of using any digital camera
combined with the basics of good photography. Through fun and informal
lectures, field trips and critiques, we will learn how the digital
camera works, and how to get the best images from it. We will cover
basic image manipulation in software and how to perfect your images once
they have been taken. We will also cover basic concepts in photography
such as proper exposure and good composition. This is a great first
course in how to make fantastic digital photographs.

In only 4 courses you will learn the most important basic camera and
photography concepts, such as: exposure calculation, depth-of-field,
effective composition guidelines and how to use your camera to get
consistent high quality results.

This workshop is intended for all budding photographers using digital SLR
cameras & Point & Shoot cameras. Each participant is expected to bring a
digital camera with a fully charged battery, manual and memory card(s).

After Our fun personal attention and interactive classes you can begin
to take better photos of any subject and get more enjoyment from your
photography.

Buying a camera doesn’t make you a photographer. It makes you a camera owner
